About

Ceremonies By Drew: Heartfelt, engaging, and uniquely yours.

Based in the heart of Newquay, I spend my days inspired by the Cornish coast, usually walking my dog along the beaches or enjoying the vibrant local community. But above all, I am driven by a passion for people and their stories. Life is a collection of distinct chapters, and I believe that the moments defining them—whether the joy of a wedding or the reflective celebration of a lifetime at a funeral—deserve to be marked with genuine warmth, dignity, and a touch of personality. As an independent celebrant, my focus is entirely on you, ensuring your milestone is honoured exactly the way you envision it.What truly sets me apart is a lifetime spent at the heart of hospitality and public celebration. With years of experience as a former cruise director, I’ve mastered the art of engaging an audience, managing large events, and making people feel instantly at ease. I know how to command a room with a smile, but more importantly, I know how to listen.

Trained to the highest professional standards, I move away from rigid, one-size-fits-all scripts to craft bespoke ceremonies tailored entirely to your unique journey. When you work with me, you’re getting a dedicated partner who brings calm reassurance, narrative flair, and a truly unforgettable touch to your special day. While I love being a part of our local Cornish community, my love for travel runs deep. Whether you are planning a beautiful coastal ceremony right here in the UK, a gathering across the water in Ireland, a romantic destination wedding in Europe, or a celebration as far afield as America—I am fully available to travel wherever your story takes you. Distance is no object when it comes to creating the perfect day.

Why We'll Make a Great Team

  • A Natural Storyteller

Your ceremony shouldn't feel like someone reading from a standard folder. With a lifetime spent in professional hospitality and entertainment, I know how to hold a room, weave a narrative, and strike the perfect balance between joyful celebration and heartfelt dignity.

  • Calm, Reassuring Guidance

Planning a major milestone—whether it’s a wedding or a farewell—can feel overwhelming. I pride myself on being a calm, steady anchor for you from our very first chat to the moment the ceremony concludes, taking care of every detail so you can simply be present.

  • Entirely Bespoke, Just For You

No templates, no rigid rules, and no ticking boxes. I take the time to truly listen to your wishes, your background, and your ideas, crafting a one-of-a-kind ceremony that feels completely authentic to who you are.

Your Wedding Ceremony Questions, gently answered

You might be wondering... ''what exactly is a celebrant, and how do you differ from a registrar?"

  • A registrar is a local authority official who focuses entirely on the legal paperwork using a standard script. As an independent celebrant, I focus entirely on the heart of your story. Together, we write a completely bespoke ceremony with total freedom—meaning we can include unique elements, music, or rituals that a registrar simply cannot.

Your Wedding Ceremony Questions, gently answered

''Am I legally going to be married during our ceremony?"

  • My ceremonies are a beautiful, heartfelt celebration of your commitment, but they don't carry legal status in England. Most couples choose to pop into the registry office a day or two before for a quick, low-cost "statutory appointment" to sign the legal paperwork. Think of that as the registration, and our ceremony as your real wedding day—the one where you share your true vows in front of everyone you love

Your Wedding Ceremony Questions, gently answered

''Can we really have our ceremony absolutely anywhere?"

  • Yes, you really can! Because the legal paperwork is handled separately, there are no restrictions on your venue. Whether you want to say your vows on a dramatic Cornish clifftop, in a rustic unlicensed barn, or in your own back garden, the choice is entirely yours.

Your Wedding Ceremony Questions, gently answered

''Can we include religious elements or spiritual rituals in our wedding?''

Absolutely. Unlike a registrar—who by law cannot allow any religious content—an independent celebrant ceremony has no restrictions. If you would like to include a traditional hymn, a favourite prayer, a symbolic handfasting ritual, or keep it entirely non-religious, we can weave those elements together perfectly to reflect who you are.

Your Celebration of Life Questions, gently answered

''What is a Celebration of Life?''

A celebration of life is a modern alternative to a traditional funeral service. While it acknowledges the deep sadness of a loss, the primary focus is on celebrating the unique personality, achievements, stories, and spirit of the person who has passed away. It is highly personalised, uplifting, and tailored entirely to how you wish to remember them.

Your Celebration of Life Questions, gently answered

''We are choosing a direct cremation. Can we still have a ceremony when we receive the ashes?''

  • Absolutely, and please know there is no rush. Direct cremations are a very popular choice now, but families still need a meaningful moment to gather and say goodbye. When you are reunited with your loved one’s ashes, we can design a beautiful memorial service or a quiet scattering ceremony in a place that feels right—whether that’s a favourite coastal walk or a peaceful garden. We will celebrate their life beautifully, on your own timeline.

Your Celebration of Life Questions, gently answered

''Can you officiate at both crematoriums and alternative venues?''

Yes, absolutely. I can lead a service at a traditional crematorium or cemetery chapel, but celebrations of life can also be held in places that felt meaningful to your loved one—such as a local community hall, a favourite outdoor spot, or a peaceful natural burial ground.

Your General Questions, gently answered

"What does it look like to work together, and how much say do we get?"

  • You have total creative control. We start with a relaxed, warm meeting to chat and share memories. From there, I write a completely original script from scratch and share it with you. You can read it, tweak it, and perfect it until it feels absolutely right. On the day, I will be there as a calm, reassuring presence to deliver your ceremony with the utmost pride and warmth.

Kind Words from Kind Hearts

How do you summarise 78 years of life in just 30 minutes? Drew somehow managed it beautifully. From just an hour spent listening to us and asking all the right questions. Drew got the complete measure of the man my dad was. The funeral service was truly beautiful, and the eulogy was absolutely spot on - accurate, thoughtful, and deeply personal. The balance Drew struck between laughter and tears was perfect, and it felt like he genuinely knew my dad. So many people came up to us afterwards to say what a brilliant celebrant he was and how moving and accurate the eulogy had been. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Drew helped us honour my dad in the most meaningful way, and we're incredibly grateful.

We had the pleasure of having Drew as our Celebrant for a wedding we had long awaited - with all our nearest and dearest present. Drew embraced the novelty wedding we had wanted - in our garden festival. We had a wonderful time in the planning stage as Drew evoked some of our most tender memories in our time together and we fell in love all over again with Drew's sensitive direction! Thank you Drew, you are wonderful!

We were so very lucky to have you as the Celebrant for Bren's funeral. You managed, with the few sketchy details we gave you, to bring Bren to life one last time, and we were grateful for that. Thank you so much - just keep doing what you do so perfectly.

At such a difficult time for myself and my family, Drew's compassion, caring, yet professional organisation of my Dad's funeral was invaluable. Drew's respectful approachability enabled us to say goodbye to dad in the way we wanted to. He expertly liaised with the funeral director and chapel staff on our behalf. Drew's delivery at the service was perfect and completely in line with our own eulogies.

I just wanted to say one final, huge thanks for the wonderful send off you gave my darling dad. I truly couldn't have asked for more. Thank you for your beautiful card and a copy of the service. I will treasure them always. Once more - thank you.

I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your help and excellent delivery at my brother's funeral. I had so many comments from the people who attended the ceremony saying how good you were. In fact I've had a couple of enquiries about your details.
